The Mi brand is legendary and synonymous with Xiaomi for about a decade. Many cell phones and other products begin with that name. But Xiaomi decided to eliminate it in future products.
“10 years after releasing a smartphone under the Mi brand, Xiaomi is ready for a big change. They are removing Mi from the product name going forward. This change starts with the recently released Mix 4 smartphone and a company representative stated to XDA Developers that all future products will follow suit, ” wrote XDA Developers quoted by detikINET, Tuesday (24/8/2021).
The Mi brand is not only embedded by Xiaomi on mobile phones, but also many other products. Call it television, laptop, air fryer, smart watch, hair dryer and even refrigerator. Now, new products in all of these categories will no longer use the Mi name.
It is not explained what exactly is the reason for Xiaomi removing the Mi brand which has actually been stuck in people’s minds. It is possible to strengthen Xiaomi’s own brand without the need to include the Mi brand, especially in the global market.
Judging from history, actually the first Xiaomi product that bears the name Mi is not a smartphone, but MIUI, the typical user interface of this Chinese company. Only then to smartphones and other electronic products as the company develops.
Then what does the word Mi mean? Lei Jun as the founder of Xiaomi some time ago explained that Mi is short for Mobile Internet or there is also an alternative sentence, Mission Impossible.
